Photo-Edition

I have been really struggling with photo edition lately. What to fix, when to stop, what looks best… Most of the time, just like writing, I have to take a break and continue some other day to have a fresh perspective, otherwise I get frustrated and tired. Like I said on a IG post, I like to relay as little as possible in edition, basically because I need to focus on getting better in my shooting phase. I have second thoughts in using presets, not because they’re not pretty or they fail to make a photo look great, but because a lot of pictures, no matter how good and creative and they are, end up looking somewhat the same or have that ‘same feeling’ given by a particular preset. The result is that, unless there is a special pattern or subject that repeats itself, I can’t distinguish one photographer from another (maybe it’s my own fault) but it’s not what I want when I get to become a photographer (if I ever do). I’m still discovering myself photography-wise: what I like to shoot, what takes the most out of me, what makes me happy and what kind of edition will I relay on and feel comfortable with… Right now my motto is “Less is More” but leaves me wondering: Am I missing the opportunity of making a photo look its best? Is it cheating or depends on what field of photography you are in? …

What about you? Do you use and/or like using presets? Do you have particular preferences while editing? Do you just don’t give that much big deal in editting? Or are you a close to being a straight out of camera kind of person? Feel free to share your thoughts about photo edition!

Últimamente he estado batallando mucho con la fase de edición de fotos, qué arreglar, cuándo parar, qué se ve mejor… La mayoría de las veces, al igual que al escribir, necesito darme un descanso y regresar a ello otro día con una perspectiva fresca, sino termino frustrada y cansada. Como dije en uno de mis posts en IG, estoy tratando de editar lo menos posible mis fotografías, básicamente porque necesito mejorar desde que tomo la fotografía. Tengo mis reservas en usar plantillas de edición, no porque no me gusten o porque fallen en hacer una foto verse genial, pero porque muchas fotos, sin importar que tan buenas y creativas sean, terminan viéndose similares o con ese ‘mismo sentimiento’ que les da determinada plantilla. El resultado es que, al menos que haya un patrón o sujeto que se repita, no termino por distinguir un fotógrafo del otro (tal vez es mi propia culpa), y no es lo que quisiera si algún día llegara en convertirme en fotógrafo. Todavía me sigo auto-descubriendo y conociendo en éste ámbito: qué cosas me gusta fotografíar, qué me exige más de mi mismo, qué me hace feliz y qué tipo de edición me gustaría lograr en mis fotos… Por ahora mi lema es: Entre menos, mejor. Pero me deja pensando ¿Estoy perdiéndome la oportunidad de que una foto luzca lo mejor que pueda? ¿Es hacer trampa? ¿O depende del campo de fotografía en que se trabaje?

¿Qué me dices? ¿Usas y/o te gustan las plantillas de edición? ¿Has encontrado preferencias particulares mientras editas? ¿No le das tanta importancia a la fase de edición? ¿O simplemente eres más de “a como salió de la cámara”?
